People addicted to drugs and alcohol is not treated with respect in society. This is one of the reasons why addicts deny themselves to be one, completely shutting out external help. By refusing help they fail to realize they would only be creating more problems for themselves. Drugs and alcohol are believed to be the root cause behind many fatal diseases.
The easy availability of the substances both legally and illegally and the pleasant feeling produced after consuming them is pushing people towards becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol. The major problem which addicts face is; they are controlled by their habits rather than their by themselves. They go to any lengths to satisfy their need. Addicts even adapt to lowly means like stealing money from their family and friends or even go to the extent of even doing a crime in order to obtain it. This happens as drugs alter the functioning of the brain to an extent where it behaves in irrational and unpredictable manner. After frequented usage the body starts to develop a tolerance and the dosage has to be increased in order to give the same previous effect.
All this can lead to dangerous situations, so an addict should surely be taken for medical help before situations worsen.
